"Strengthening Socio-Emotional Skills
Using the DECA (Devereux Early Childhood Assessment) Program"

Purpose:

This training will introduce your staff to the Devereux Early Childhood Assessment (DECA) strength-based assessment and planning system to promote children’s resilience, strengthen socio-emotional skills and increase the overall quality of the early childhood setting. An overview of the five step system DECA Program which is centered around the nationally standardized, strength-based assessment of children’s within-child protective factors will be presented.

Topics Covered:

  • Resilience and it’s importance to children

  • Overview of Step 1: Collecting Information on children and classroom quality

  • Overview of Step 2: Administering the assessment instrument (DECA)

  • Overview of Step 3: Summarizing the Interpreting the assessment results

  • Overview of Stap 4: Using assessment results to plan changes in the classroom and home settings

  • Overview of Step 5: Evaluating progress of the DECA Program on children, families and caregivers.

Constant is a nationally certified instructor of the (DECA) Devereux Early Childhood Assessment Program by the Devereux Foundation in Villanova, PA.
